Wood Guard Marine Timber & Pilings

Woodguard Marine - Maintenance-Free Polymer Coated Timbers and Pilings

For the past 30 years, Woodguard has been protecting timbers and pilings, making us the oldest, most established maintenance free polymer coated wood product in the world. Our plastic formula has been tested, not just in a laboratory, but out in the field, where real elements attack timbers and pilings. Our virgin copolymer polyethylene has superior Ultraviolet (UV) stabilization properties and will not yellow, split, chip, crack, peel, or blister in any climate. Woodguard’s patented process is completed in a state-of-the-art production facility, and our quality inspection process guarantees that each timber and piling will meet our exacting specifications.

How is Woodguard made?

Woodguard Marine starts with the finest #1 grade treated timbers and pilings. Unlike common marine grade timbers and pilings, Woodguard will not leach harmful chemicals into the environment, because the wood is coated with a thick, opaque polyethylene skin. This also protects the timbers and pilings against weathering, rotting, and discoloring. Once the skin is applied, Woodguard is ready to build with. Simply choose your color and get to work.

Who uses Woodguard?

Anyone looking to build a marine structure that would normally use traditional treated timbers and pilings can benefit from Woodguard. Woodguard products are ideal to use as waler boards, stringers, caps and pilings. Marine contractors love the ease and workability of the product, since it is no different than working with traditional wood. Homeowners love the look and the durability of Woodguard. For years, the treated wood has been the weak point in the seawall. Now, a completely synthetic solution is available! Engineers like to specify Woodguard timbers and pilings because it gives their customers a solution that is not dependent on the short lifespan of traditional wood. Plus, they don’t have to reinvent the wheel since they are dealing with the strength numbers of wood!

Are using nails, screws or bolts into the coating harmful?

Our plastic seals around all fasteners and the treatment protects the wood. You should never let the head of the fastener penetrate under the coating as this could potentially create a breach in the seal. Make sure the head of the fastener snugs tightly against the coating and your installation will be perfect. On bolts you should always use washers on both ends and never counter sink the head of the bolt.
